Web Development

If you want a web site, but don’t want to become a web developer, you’ve come to the right place. We turn you ideas into a functioning web site. You’ll get:

  • A presence on the world wide web with pages that people can browse to learn more about you, see what you want them to, and even do business with you.

  • Email addresses @ your own (or your company’s) name instead of the name of a big internet service provider. (jack@acme.com instead of jack@earthlink.net or jack@aol.com)

  • The ability to access your email remotely from any computer connected to the internet anywhere.

  • The ability to allow people to send you sensitive information securely by filling in forms on your site.

  • The ability to sell goods or services through your site.

The Web is Different from Paper and Ink.
Once a page is printed on paper, it looks the same to everyone. Web pages aren’t as predictable. If the viewer’s computer doesn’t have the font used when creating a page, it will substitue another. Resizing the browser window on the viewer’s screen, or using different brands of browser, can cause text and graphics to reflow or change position. All of these variables must be taken into account when designing each page in your site. The web is certainly one place where it pays to keep things as simple as they can be. The pages must be designed so they will load quickly, even for people accessing your web site through a dial up (modem) connection. If the wait is too long, people will simply go to another site.

What about do-it-yourself software like Go Live and DreamWeaver?
Programs like these can make pages that look good on your machine, with your fonts and your browser(s). They don’t do anything to accommodate different kinds of computers (Mac, Windows, Unix), font substitutions, or different brands of browser, and they don’t go out of their way to design their pages for speedy loading. Depending on their computer and browser, people viewing your site may not see what you expected, and pages may be slow to load.

What We Do That’s Different.
We develop your pages taking all the variables into account. We even consider how pages might work in the new browsers used in cellular phones and handheld devices (like Palms). The pages we create intelligently take into account the capabilities of the computer and browser being used to view them, displaying the information suitably. Our sites are developed to be universally accessible, fast to load, easy to use and powerful. We take great pride in developing quality sites that not only look good, but work well.

In developing custom websites, we progress in the logical steps. We start by listening as you describe what kind of information you need, and how you currently access and use the information.

We’ll then build a rough version that we think includes most of the working features we discussed. It will look very plain on screen, because we’re just getting the programs functions to work. Cosmetics are handled toward the end of the project, once we know everything is working and that all necessary features are included.

You’ll get to see and work with the rough version, and we’ll modify it based on your feedback. We’ll likely have to go through that process several times before it’s right.

We’re happy to discuss custom website projects and provide estimates. The initial consultation is free. Call 919-404-0222 to set an appointment
